Fairfield City Council is offering residents and businesses another chance to buy a commemorative paver and be part of history at the redeveloped Fairfield Showground.

The pavers can be engraved with family or business names in recognition of people who have called Fairfield City ‘home’. They will be laid in a new walking path at the redeveloped Fairfield Showground.

So far, more than 850 families and businesses have taken up the offer to celebrate their links to our City with a personalised paver. Some have been purchased as gifts celebrating marriages, births and wedding anniversaries.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the path will be the perfect way for the community to celebrate their links to our City.

“I hope that you will take this opportunity to recognise your families, yourselves or your businesses that have a special connection to Fairfield City, because it is the people that are the most important and most special part of our City,” Mayor Carbone said.

“It’s great to see how many residents have purchased these pavers as lasting gifts to celebrate special family milestones.”

Mayor Carbone said the path, as well as the People’s Globe and multi-directional flagpole at the entrance to the Showground, celebrates Fairfield City’s history as a home for people from right across the world.

“Ever since John Williams and his wife took up a land grant in 1792 and became the area’s first European settlers, people have been coming here from all over the world. Their names and histories form a crucial part of our City’s story,” Mayor Carbone said.

The pavers cost $99 for a large paver and $70 for a small paver. The price covers the cost of purchasing, engraving and laying the pavers. The pavers will be laid when the path is completed later this year.
