Town Centre Improvements

Community engagement in 2020 asked residents to define what they like about living in the city, what they would like to change and then to prioritise what they want to see achieved in the future. As a result, a list of the top ten priorities for 2022-2032 was identified.

Priority 4 - Cleaner streets and public areas

Priority 5 - Attractive and lively town centres

Priority 6 - Inviting and well used community places and parks

Villawood local centre in 2024 has had an investment under Council’s Operational Plan to improve its look and feel and make it more comfortable for residents and visitors.

New and additional seating has been installed, including at the Woodville Road bus stop, outside the Woodville Alliance offices, and in the shaded pedestrian laneway.

Some seating was poorly located, including seating under some trees where maintaining daily cleanliness is not possible. People were not able to sit in those locations.

Painting of bollards, community notice board and the bus shelter (with renewed guttering) has helped to freshen up the centre.

Landscape beds will be progressively updated, and the work has already begun. New tree planting in locations that will be favourable to healthy growth is being investigated.   

Residents want “attractive and lively town centres”. Small yet significant incremental improvements to the Villawood public domain helps to support the growing day time and nighttime economy.

Villawood is coming alive with exciting eating options attracting locals and visitors, helping to build a positive image for the area.

Investment in the town centre also supports what residents want to see: Priority 9 – more job opportunities.
